About Us

St Nicholas is an Orthodox Christian community of Christians striving to follow the two great commandments of Christ. We gather in worship regularly to express our love for God and to be filled by His grace. We care for one another through prayer and acts of kindness.

The roots of our community go deep. Being a member of the Orthodox Church we trace our origins to the teaching of the apostles and the dogmas of the Fathers. As a local community we had our beginnings in the early 1900’s when waves of immigrants were arriving in the Lorain area from Greece. These new arrivals worked with zeal and dedication to preserve their culture and grow their faith. As the years progressed they built a temple to the Lord (1923). From this spiritual home, named in honor of the much beloved St Nicholas bishop of Myra, they strove, as we continue to strive, to keep the Gospel of Jesus Christ under the guiding presence of the Metropolitan (Bishop) of Pittsburgh.

Following the completion of the second Great War another influx of immigrants arrived in the area from Greece, Egypt, Cyprus and Romania. Together this new mix of people, young and old, local born and newly arrived came together renewing and strengthening the Orthodox presence in the area. We are now a diverse and eclectic mix of people united by a common faith in Christ our Risen Lord. We aim to be of one mind and one heart worshiping God and loving our fellow men and women.

You are welcome to come and experience living worship of the living God and if you so desire to become a “new creation” in Christ and a new member of St Nicholas!
